Los Almendrillos

A stunning modern house set in a 12 acre finca of olive and almond trees in the mountains of Southern Spain.

This beautifully appointed house enjoys unspoilt views to the Mediterranean, with the Atlas and Riff Mountains of North Africa visible on a clear day.

The entrance has Moorish style towers, complete with traditional small windows, which house the staircase and bathrooms. All the bedrooms and living rooms face South and have floor to ceiling windows for maximum light and view.

The house inside is simple and white with polished cement floors and excellent under-floor heating for cool periods. The living areas and downstairs bedrooms face onto a large terrace with lovely shady areas for dining or just relaxing and reading. At a lower level the salt water pool is surrounded by rosemary, lavender and shady olive and carob trees.

Los Almendrillos was designed by Tim Bruce-Dick Architects in 2000.

The original farmhouse is adjacent and provides additional accommodation.

  • The house is 3kms from the village of Gaucin, where you can find:

    Organic vegetable and food shop

    Wine shop

    Post office

    Bank and cash machine

    Gas Station

    Medical centre

    Pharmacy

    Hardware store

    Butcher

    Small supermarket

    A part time gardener looks after the pool and running of the house. A maid prepares the house in advance and does the laundry on departure.

    The house is within easy access of airports at both Gibraltar (50 minutes - BA and Easyjet from the UK) and  Malaga (90 minutes) which offers a much wider range airline options.

  • RESTAURANTS

    The villages in the region have tapas bars and excellent local restaurants. Ronda has several fine dining restaurants.

    TRIPS

    Ronda – 45 minutes. Grazalema/Ubrique/Cortes/Gaucin is a good circuit if you take a leisurely journey by the slow road.

    From Ronda you can get to Seville, Jerez, Grazelema, Ubrique.

    Malaga 1.5 hours

    Trains — Gaucin Station is situated in the village of El Colmenar on the Algeciras to Ronda line which takes in beautiful country and from Ronda you can get to Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Madrid etc.   Spanish intercity trains are excellent, but must be booked in advance.

    SPORTS

    Golf is popular here and there are a large number of courses to choose from on the coast including Valderamma (30 minutes) and Sotogrande. There is a tennis court in the village and riding can be arranged locally.

    Atlantic beaches – Tarifa (windsurfing centre of Europe), Bolonia and Zahara. Although a long drive, it is a wonderful coast for relaxing and swimming.

    Fresh water swimming - Drought permitting you can swim in the river at El Colmenar (25 minutes) or a 40 minute uphill walk leads to a beautiful icy lagoon fed up an underground spring. Off the Ronda road near Benaoján there are a series of caves and the swimming at Cueva del Gato (Cat Cave) is cold and beautiful.
